These rugs are made by Mahmood Alam and his family. Everyone in the family helps out in the process of rug making, from his wife, Shakiba, to the youngest daughter, Jamila. All washing, spinning and dyeing of the wool is done in their home. All the rugs are hand-tufted, which is a rug-making process where weavers insert yarn into the rug backing with a hand-held tufting gun to push and pull the threads through a pre-woven grid foundation. The pattern is stenciled onto the primary backing material and once the tufting is complete, an additional backing is attached to protect the stitches. In a tufted rug, the tops of the loops are sheared to expose the ends of the threads for a softer, plusher pile. What is Worldstock? The handcrafted nature of this product will produce minor differences in design and sizing. Subtle variations will occur from piece to piece, adding to its unique qualities. Measurements may vary slightly. Tip: We recommend the use of a non-skid pad to keep the rug in place on smooth surfaces. All rug sizes are approximate.
